Parent coaching is a service offered to parents that teach them effective and positive co-parenting skills. Parent coaching is a skill-based program and is not therapy.
The parent coach sets goals with each parent about what they want their co-parenting relationship to look like and things that need to change in order to meet these goals. Parent coaching can assist the parents in recognizing the behaviours that are causing conflict in their co-parenting relationship, assist the parents in improving their communication, and teach them how to make transitions easier for their children.
Homework is provided at the end of each session and parents are expected to complete the homework and implement any new skills learned prior to their next session. The parent coach monitors each parent throughout the coaching process to ensure that the parents are utilizing the skills and working towards their goals.
Parent coaching can be very effective when both parents commit to changing their behavior and utilize and implement the skills that they are taught during coaching sessions.
